Philosopher's Stone Ventures Ventures Mentors Larynx
for ThinkTank - UCI Business Plan Competition
Irvine, CA, March 19, 2001 -- During a business plan competition
sponsored by ThinkTank and the University of California,
Irvine's Graduate School of Management (UCIGSM), Philosopher's
Stone Ventures CFO Jenny M. Sakhrani mentored entrepreneurs
from Larynx Technologies, Inc.
The competition kicked-off in mid-January and mentors were
matched with the various Business plan teams. Intense mentoring
took place during the next two months culminating in the
teams' final presentations on March 17th, 2001, and celebration
for the winners at the UCI Reception on March 19th, 2001.
The graduate student entrepreneurs competed for prize money
of $20,000 for first place, while second place prize was
$10,000.
Along with mentors like Ashwin Rangan, CIO of Conexant
(NASDAQ: CNXT), Mike Smith, V.P. Marketing of Emulex, (NASDAQ:
EMLX), and Marla Johnson, Sr. Relationship Manager at Silicon
Valley BancShare (NASDAQ: SIVB), Sakhrani provided close
mentorship to Larynx, a start-up providing natural-language
capabilities on electronic devices.
"We're very proud of our team's success. Our team
took second place and we're so happy to have been a part
of their efforts," noted Sakhrani. "This competition
gave them access to our mentor groups' experience, and gave
us a chance to learn about opportunities with Larynx."
